Well, I already have a 'list' of games I'm keeping my eye on and saving money for, but occasionally, when I'm actually out to the mall, I can't help but look in Gamestop most of the time. The time I last went in, I was looking for... uh... Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 instead. I was looking at news for it before it came out, but changed my mind when it got the M rating. But, I looked for it anyway, not being able to resist. It would be my first M rated title(Not because I'm actually 17 now, but because most of them never caught any interest or I was intimidated by it). But when I went there, I couldn't find it, so I asked. I found out that, well, it's actually hard to find. Didn't know that. But I asked anyway how bad it might be. 'Cause I don't want to see... heads being chopped off or exploding bodies of blood or anything, you know? *cough*

But then he got into lots of detail about other rpgs I might be able to handle, or try. Man he went on. He was sure having fun... and one he recommended, was Xenosaga. I heard of it when it first came out, but never looked at it. He said anyone who loved rpgs, or is a fan of rpgs MUST have this. I'm a bit late aren't I? Anyway, found one used, not even 10$. So if I didn't like it, it wasn't like I'd waste a lot of money. I go home, try it out, and I get to the screen where I... you know, choose new game. I want to select it, but when I pressed X, nothing happened. I pressed harder, in case there might have been something stuck. Still nothing. I reset. Nothing. I reset and switch to another controller. Nothing again. And yes, I did carefully try wiping it with a very soft cloth. Now, I take the game out and try another game in case my PS2 was having issues. It worked fine with others. So, we ask about an exchange, since I am curious now. They said they will order one from Poughkeepsie. But, should I just return it? Or will it be worth all this?
I am asking here because I hope to get a few opinions. Might make me feel more sure about it... or something.

(Sorry for adding the whole story.)

Xenosaga comes closer to "interactive movie" than any other videogame out there. So if you like sitting there watching cutscenes for literally hours on end, go for it. Beyond that, it's a pretty standard RPG. It's also part of a 3-game series, and because the story's continuous you'll miss out on a lot unless you get all 3. So that's something to consider.

As for Persona 3, my case says it's rated M for "Violence, Blood, and Partial Nudity". Partial nudity being women wearing bikinis at the beach, by the way, so that's full of crap. As for violence, it's no worse than the average Final Fantasy. Blood..well, the only blood is used as decoration in some of the dungeon levels. Nothing I can do if you're that squeamish though. Well, except laugh a bit.

I found Xenosaga 1 to be a very overhyped game that didn't live up to expectations.

Persona 3 on the other hand is a great RPG. Since it's an Atlus game, it's a pretty rare thing to find a new copy sitting in a mainstream store carrying games like that as Atlus stopped manufacturing the game.

That's because they're releasing another version of it, which is basically the same game with added features. Which sucks for anyone who bought the original, because they either have to miss out or pay double. It's also why I quit playing mine rather than beating it, why bother if I'm just gonna play through it again?

when i got my xenosaga 2 when it was released, i got a dvd with it that ONLY included all the damn cut scene and damn it, it was a good movie. lol Then again, there were a few bits where the bosses came around. it wasn't all that bad, pretty good but the game play was a bit dry.

Hm... thank you very much for your opinions everyone. I think I'm just going to return it. If I was really interested in it when it came out, I probably would have gotten it. I'm just going to have to hope I get lucky for the real game I'm looking for then.

Thanks again~ x3

If you can make it past the first scene in Xenosaga, the rest of the game is decent. (Note, rabid kos-mos fanboy, and I'm not telling you that it's 'super awesome') There ARE afew long, dragged out boring scenes, but the 3 game series has a really cool raligious backed storyline to it, that kept me very interested.

And stop pressing X. Xenosaga is one of those "we like the japanese controls better" games. Circle is confirm, x is cancel. Thats what you'e problem was, not a broken disk/ps2.

Always, always try pressing all of you're buttons on that end of the controller before assuming your game is broken.

But I'll be honest, if you don't want to do a lot of sitting for half an hour at a time, just tolisten to people talk/setup the storyline, then Xenosaga wont be your kind of game. Sky has some prettykick ass rpg's under his belt, he can definitely recommend a good one. Like Ar Tonelico. ~Still listens to the songs he has left form the soundtrack~

edit: so does Myao, figired I'd add that so I don'tget chewed out on msn like the last timeI made a smartass comment.

^ (late response)

....Well I feel like an even bigger idiot. I didn't know there were games like that. Usually I read the instruction manual on button.... stuff. But this one didn't have one, and apparently I don't try every button. But it's alright, I most likely would have gotten bored. And I always do this when I get impatient waiting for other games I know I'm getting.

But thank you everyone for all the info. Maybe it can help me from future idiotic actions on my part... (most likely not) /swt
